Good to know
- Meta's own pages disagree. Its checkout terms (last modified May 2026) state 10% with a $0.80 minimum, while an undated promotional page still says 5%. These figures use the terms. Check a real payout to confirm your rate.
- Local cash sales carry no fee and are outside this calculator. Everything here is for shipped sales.
How Facebook Marketplace fees work
Facebook Marketplace charges no fee on a local sale paid in person. Fees apply to shipped sales that go through Facebook checkout, and this calculator covers that case. Meta's checkout terms state a selling fee of 10%, with a minimum of $0.80.
The percentage applies to the entire transaction, meaning the sale price, the shipping and any applicable taxes. Goods shipped together count as one sale for the fee. The $0.80 minimum applies on anything under $8.00 in total, so on a $5 sale you pay $0.80, which works out to 16% of the price.
A word of caution, because this rate is confusing to look up. Meta's sell-with-shipping page still says the fee is 5%, and many articles repeat a 5% or $0.40 figure. The checkout terms, which were last modified in May 2026, are the dated legal document, and the seller policies agree with them. We use those here. If your real payouts show a different number, trust your payout and tell us.
The terms also say the selling fee does not include any separate payment provider fees, while the same promotional page says the fee covers processing. We did not find a page that shows a separate processing charge for individual Marketplace sellers, so none is included.
Other costs can land on you after the sale. Carrier weight adjustments are charged to the seller, which is a reason to weigh parcels rather than guess. A chargeback costs $20, waived if you successfully dispute it. Since local pickup is free, it's often worth listing bulky items for pickup only, where shipping would eat the margin anyway.
A worked example
Say you sell an item you paid $10.00 for at $50.00, with free shipping to the buyer and 7% sales tax, you pay $8.00 for the label. On Facebook Marketplace that comes to Selling fee $5.35, $5.35 in total. You keep $26.65, a 53.3% margin.
Common questions
How much does Facebook Marketplace charge for shipped items?
Meta's checkout terms state 10% of the sale price, shipping and tax, with a $0.80 minimum. Older pages and articles still quote 5%, so check a real payout if yours looks different.
Are local Facebook Marketplace sales free?
Yes. An item sold locally and paid for in person has no Facebook fee. Fees apply to sales that use shipping and checkout.
Does the Facebook fee include sales tax?
The fee is calculated on the entire transaction, including shipping and applicable taxes, so your fee is a bit more than 10% of the item price.
